BMCC students are making waves!

High school dual enrolled student, Karma Doyle, is one of five students in the state to receive the American Legion Scholarship in her amount and has earned an honorable mention in her volleyball conference.

Karma would like to share more about her achievements and plans:

Aanii, my name is Karma Doyle. I am a junior at Ojibwe Charter School where I have attended since kindergarten. I have been an honor roll student since I can remember. I have a 3.7 GPA, and I have always maintained good grades and work hard to do so. I recently won a scholarship for the American legion in the district zone and will be going to the state competition in March. I started taking a dual enrollment course this year, and so far I have no issue understanding the coursework thanks to my teacher. I enjoy my class and look forward to continuing with dual enrollment my senior year.

I have been playing volleyball and soccer for 3 years at Ojibwe Charter School, and started playing basketball this year and plan to join track in the spring. I was a captain on the soccer team my sophomore year, this year I was captain for the volleyball team where I saw some great improvements in my team. Athletics show people how to work together and that there is always room for improvement. They also build teamwork and are a great way to stay in shape.

I also maintain a job all year long at Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie. I have been working as a hostess since February of 2023 and plan to continue working there until I graduate high school because I love the work environment.

My high school gives all students the opportunity to tour colleges, universities and trades programs. We went on a tour of Oakland University last year. After the tour I knew that Oakland was the college I wanted to attend. I plan to major in physical therapy.

Good job and good luck, Karma!
